Kohler-Andrae
State Park, approximately 13 miles north of Harrington Beach
State Park, and 5 miles south of Sheboygan, this park is a
real gem for sea kayakers. The long stretch of sandy beach
in both directions, the sand dunes of the park, the camping,
easily accessible parking and restrooms. Whether you go for
a day paddle or stop by while paddling the water trail, this
is a wonderful place. Caution: the sand bars off shore at
the parking area can make for interesting surf landings.
Also, during the warmer months, there are a lot of
swimmers in the water.
King Park, Sheboygan, approximately 5 miles north of Kohler-Andrae,
is a sandy beach on the near south side of Sheboygan.
Restrooms and street parking are easily accessible.
Sheboygan River, approximately
1 mile north of King Park, paddle up the river a short
distance, pull-up to a dock, get out and walk around--there
are several places to eat, have a cup of coffee, etc.
Careful, the docks are a little high for exiting/entering a
kayak. CAUTION: the harbor entrance here is approximately
.75 miles and can be very wicked when the water's are rough.
Northside Beach, on the north side of the
north breakwater, is a sandy beach. A safe
landing zone, and just up over the rocks is a building
containing restrooms. Lots of picnic tables there too, and a
parking lot--north side of marina's parking lot. |
